A new committee of artists and art enthusiasts alike was appointed over the weekend to lead the Stationmaster’s Art Gallery into its 25th year of operation.

The not-for-profit Strathalbyn gallery held its Annual General Meeting on Saturday at the Red Hen Studio to review the past year, induct new committee members, and outline plans and/or intentions for the upcoming year.

New Chairperson Lynda Mundy said despite low attendance numbers, the gallery managed to hold a successful forum.

“Between COVID and lots of people going out delivering their paintings for SALA next week, we were a bit low on members,” she said.

“But (the AGM) went quite well.

“We were going to make an honorary member of one of the ladies, but we’ve since found out we have to actually have that written in our constitution, so we’ll be changing (that) over the year.”

Joining Ms Mundy on the new committee is Irene Schedel as Secretary, Anne Johnstone as Treasurer, Catherine Pallin as Co-ordinator, and members Jen McCallum, Kathleen Cain, Tana Lampard, and Madeleine Elkin.

The group’s plans for the coming year include garnering more publicity for the gallery, and further utilising the Red Hen Studio, including for teaching facilities such as workshops.

The committee will also spend the next few months discussing celebration options for the gallery’s upcoming 25th anniversary.

“We had a shaky start 24 years ago… we nearly closed a couple of times due to lack of money and committee, but we’ve strolled along,” Ms Mundy said.

“Last year, we (had) a nice, steady committee and about 40 members, and it’s going quite well.

“Thank you to everyone who’s involved in the gallery, especially the volunteers because without them the members wouldn’t be there.
