A Southern Argus Anzac Day promotion has generated $695 for the Strathalbyn and Districts RSL.
In the April 21 edition, local businesses took part in a five-page advertising feature, with all proceeds being donated to the local RSL sub branch.
Strathalbyn and Districts RSL President Cate Goodall thanked all involved for the donation.
“I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the town and people in this area, and this is an extraordinary donation through The Argus’ Anzac Day initiative,” she said.
“Last year we put the money The Argus kindly raised towards a football honour board, and this year we are going to put it towards a netball Anzac Day honour board.
“The other thing we would really like to do is a new initiative for the RSL where we sponsor an army cadet.
“We had a cadet participate in the Anzac Day service this year, and we are very excited to think we may be able to sponsor that cadet’s training as they proceed through their activities.
“Thank you very much for this kind donation.”
Southern Argus managing director Darren Robinson acknowledged the support received from local businesses and community members.
“This donation was only made possible as a result of their decision to invest in our Commemorative Anzac Day promotion,” he said.
“Their generous support also enables our paper to share the local stories that help to keep the important legacy alive.
“As your local newspaper, it’s important for us to look at ways where we can invest in our community – this is something that we take immense pride in.”
As the paper grows, The Argus is hopeful of supporting other clubs through future promotions.
