One of Strathalbyn’s biggest annual events, Christmas Where the Angas Flows, is calling on sponsorship from local businesses and individuals for the much-loved community celebration.
About $24,000 is needed for fireworks, technology such as PA systems and big screens, amusements and entertainment for kids.
The committee is also seeking a major sponsor for the naming rights of the fireworks.
A few thousand people typically join the festivities on the last day of school, filling Strathalbyn’s Soldiers Memorial Gardens, surrounding streets and eateries.
The event includes local entertainment, food trucks, kid’s activities, carols and fireworks.
Interchurch Council/Christmas Where the Angas Flows Treasurer, Penny Geue, said the event celebrates community and is a local Christmas tradition.
“It’s such a big community event, everyone wants to get together and celebrate,” she said.
“It’s nice and relaxed (and) family-friendly.”
She recently accepted $500 donations from Rotary Club of Strathalbyn, and Gilbert’s Motor Museum, presented by volunteers Craig Maidment and Rex Keily, who are also members of Interchurch Council/Christmas Where the Angas Flows committee.
“There will be a lot going on, there will be a market, fun rides for the kids, it’ll be a great night,” Mr Keily said.
“There’s something for the children and it’s an opportunity to celebrate the end of a fairly difficult year.”
“It’s an opportunity to catch up with people you may not have seen for a while,” Mr Maidment added.
