Ahoy me hearties! It’s time to pull out those maps as the hunt is almost on for the best treasure in all the land.
The Sunday Treasure Market – run by The Rotary Club of Strathalbyn – will be held alongside Strathalbyn’s Antiques and Collectables Fair at the Oval next weekend.
About 1500 visitors wandered the market last year, which sits outside part of the Antique Fair in Carruthers Hall, and searched for a bargain.
Co-ordinator Craig Maidment described the event as a “big garage sale” with a “carnival atmosphere”.
“It’s got a good feel; everyone’s out for a bargain,” he said.
“We’ve got people walking around and haggling with the stallholders.
“It’s all about bargaining and finding that magic thing that makes up a set of something you might have.
“People collect all sorts of things – badges and telephones, books, manuals of cars – it’s everything.”
After putting a call-out on Facebook pages, Mr Maidment has received much interest from sellers in the district and is expecting more than 60 stalls.
“I got a great response from that, people all over from Seaford, Victor, to the Hills,” he said.
“I have several people this year who have cleaned out their parents’ houses who have passed away.
“There’s a lot of antiques and treasures that their parents have collected over the years.
“If you don’t go to a big event like this, you could be waiting years to get rid of those items.
“Some people make quite a bit of money out of it.”
Funds raised by stallholder fees go towards Rotary, which puts money into local projects, and the Strathalbyn Tourism Association.
The Lions Club will also run a food van.
Entry for sellers opens at 6.30am, and for sellers at 7.30am, with a $2 entry fee.
Sellers can apply for a stall until the day before.
